Our Story

Applewood Yarn Barn

How it all started…Nettie, Amy and Dianna were excited to attend the Vogue Knitting Live event in Seattle in April 2022 and created our own Yarn Crawl while we were in Seattle. We visited many cozy, quaint, full to the brim and unique stores during our visit. After each visit, we naturally fell into discussion about what we liked, the quality of the yarn, the uniqueness of the products and the feel of the store. When Amy took over the driving, Nettie started sketching a vision on her iPad of what her and Rick’s barn would look like, and carved out a piece of the barn, for the vision of a yarn store. We had great discussions and brainstorming while on the Ferry ride from Seattle. We batted around names, played with logo’s and landed on Applewood Yarn Barn. Applewood Lane is their street name, and after floating around other names with Green Bluff in them, we landed on Applewood Yarn Barn. We are located on Applewood and we are actually in a Barn! We began our business plan, our must-haves and really just brainstormed all the intricacies of dreaming up a business. That was a very valuable time away for all of us and seeing those dreams on the iPad come to life have been fascinating.

Fostering Creativity and
Building Community

Applewood Yarn Barn fosters a warm and welcoming environment for knitters and crocheters of all skill levels. We believe that with the right start, anyone can create something special that will last a lifetime. We’ve carefully selected yarns and notions that are personal favorites of our own and are excited to share them with the fiber community. Our mission is to build a community that finds the love of fiber arts that we cherish.

Meet the Team

  • Nettie is a seasoned crafter with a lifelong love for all things creative. Although she dabbled in knitting for over a decade, it was her job that propelled her into becoming a serious knitter, as frequent travels became a part of her routine.

Knitting not only became a hobby but also served as a soothing remedy for her anxiety during flights.

Now, freshly retired, Nettie eagerly anticipates nurturing a vibrant community of fellow knitting and crochet enthusiasts.

Nettie has been married for 10 years to her husband Rick. Together, they enjoy spending time with their 5 grandbabies and travel whenever possible to someplace warm and sunny with a beach.

  • Dianna is currently on her final countdown from her 45-plus-year banking career.

Dianna’s love of yarn was re-fueled when her sister-in-law Nettie married Dianna’s brother.

Knitting compliments Dianna’s love of crafting including quilting. Now, not only does she have a fabric stash, but her yarn stash is also growing!

She continues to learn new knitting skills that both Nettie and Amy taught her and enjoys the unique skills of other talented fiber artists.

Dianna Reynolds

  • Amy's crafting journey began at the age of 5 when her mom taught her to cross stitch. In high school, she mastered the art of crochet, and later taught herself knitting skills through online resources.

Now, with 30 years of marriage under her belt and two grown kids, Amy is excited to teach the next generation of yarn enthusiasts. When Amy has free time she enjoys traveling with her husband Jerry.
